Tough Mudder SoCal #2

‘Went for a little road trip and some exercise in California’s San Bernardino mountains last weekend, specifically, the Tough Mudder SoCal #2 event.  As you can see from the course map, the event was held on the Snow Valley ski slopes.  Going up and down those steep inclines was pretty brutal, and a killer calf workout.  The 6,800 foot base elevation provided an extra challenge for those used to living and exercising at sea level.  As always, to make it even more interesting, the crew at Tough Mudder designed and built over twenty fun, wet, cold, dirty, muddy and electrified obstacles thoughout the course.

Some made ya laugh and feel like a kid, such as the adult-sized slip’n'slide called “Greased Lightning”, where participants slid down 100 yards into a plastic lined holding basin that’s probably used for the snow blowers in the winter.  Other obstacles encouraged teamwork and assistance of fellow particpants, like the 10-foot double-stacked “Berlin Walls” and the half-pipe named “Everest”.  There were monkey bars and rings to swing across water pits, mud crawls under barbed wire, and dumpsters filled with 34 degree ice water.  And of course, the “Electroshock Therapy” finish, where particpants are zapped with 10,000 volts of electricity while running through 50-yards of charged yellow cords.

Was it challenging?  Yeah.  Was it fun?  Hell yeah!  Tough Mudder is the pinnacle of the obstacle race companies, and I’d encourage you to take up the challenge next time they hold an event in your area.  Here’s a link to their site, and some pics of my experience at SoCal #2…
